The Bat Whispers
All is not what it seems at the Fleming mansion as mysterious strangers randomly appear without warning throughout the night in this pre-code mystery thriller. It is suspected that a half-million dollars from a recent bank robbery is hidden somewhere in the mansion and no one wants the money more than a homicidal killer only known as “The Bat” and he will do whatever it takes to find it. Cloaked in a bat mask and bat cape, he terrorizes the occupants of the house, along with the authorities in his quest to find the hidden loot. While the film is not widely known today, the impact it had after it’s release was profound. The movie had quite an impact on a young man named Bob Kane. When he later became a writer and illustrator for DC Comics, he created a new superhero named Batman inspired by the villain in the film. The film also was one of the earliest to be filmed in widescreen, using 65mm film stock. Who is the Bat? You will have to see the movie to find out!
