A detailed chronicle of The Rolling Stones’ 1960s tour of the United States, which culminated in the disastrous and chaotic concert held on December 6th at the Altamont Speedway Free Festival. Transpiring four months after Woodstock, The Altamont Free Concert notably marked the end of an era: the generation of peace and love of the 1960s suddenly became the generation of disillusionment.
Documented by Albert Maysles and David Maysles, i.e., the Maysles brothers (Salesman, Grey Gardens), and heavily associated with the Direct Cinema documentary movement of the 1950s and 1960s, in which filmmakers aim to be as 'objective’ as possible, partaking in an exploratory process of recording subjects and events as they occur ‘naturally.’
GET PUNK'D is a monthly series recognizing the obscurity and unruliness of punk subculture. Ranging from low-budget indie flicks to coming-of-age dramas, these films feature a heavy dose of gritty rock 'n' roll soundtracks, DIY methods, and anti-establishment attitudes.
