We take it and make it our own.” In October 1992, the direct action collective The Lesbian Avengers performed their first fire-eating to honor Hattie Mae Cohens and Brian Mock, who were killed in a homophobic fire-bombing attack. Over the years, they would stage protests through New York City, establish the NYC Dyke March, and form chapters throughout the country.
