Trans Lives On-Screen presents The TransInternational Shorts Block, a collection of five short films all by trans directors. The goal of this block is to provide space for different artistic visions of trans life, and while separated by time and space, these films are united by subject matter and gaze.
The films are as follows:
Gender Troublemakers
dirs. Mirha-Soleil Ross, Xanthra Phillippa
1993 // 25 mins // Digital Projection // English
What happens when two trans dykes get sick of non-transsexuals’ uninformed representations of their sexualities and their lives? They grab their 8 millimeter home video camera, their last 200 bucks, and come up with an uncompromising in-your-face flick about their shitty relationships with gay men and their unabashed attraction to other transsexual women.
Mes chéris
dirs. Ty Wardwell, Ethan Folk
2020 // 12 mins // Digital Projection // English
Part doc, part pornography, “Mes Chéris” is a transboi’s farewell to his boobs. This raunchy tribute subverts straight porn tropes and mainstream trans* representation in a radical act of self-love.
Ni Aquí Ni Allá
dir. Ley Comas
2021 // 15 mins // Digital Projection // Spanish w/ English subtitles
Growing up in the Dominican Republic, filmmaker Ley Comas had a negative understanding of their trans identity. Years later, they attempt to share their truth with their religious family.
